Recognition of a work accident by National Insurance

Which injuries count as a work accident, what matters in an accident on the way to work and which documents are filed with the National Insurance Institute.

What counts as a work accident

An accident occurring during and because of work is the starting point for examining a work injury. Events on the way to work, on the way home or between workplaces may also qualify, subject to the circumstances and statutory requirements.

Accidents on the way to and from work

A substantial interruption or deviation from the usual route may affect recognition. Certain exceptions exist, so record the purpose of the journey, route, time and any stops. Special circumstances during a break or while carrying out a role require individual examination.

Filing the claim

Gather the accident details, initial treatment records, employer notification, incapacity certificates and witness details. Recognition may lead to assessment of injury benefits and, if limitations remain, work-related disability. Occupational disease and microtrauma are additional routes for examining harm connected to work.
