The gold MEH letters on the office wall

Personal accident insurance for students

The students’ personal accident insurance also covers injuries outside school hours. What it includes and how a claim is made.

Scope of the cover

Student personal accident insurance may apply outside school hours and during holidays. Cover, exclusions and eligibility depend on the policy in force at the time of the accident and the circumstances of the event.

Components of the benefit

Depending on the policy, temporary or permanent disability benefits, certain medical expenses and additional extensions may be relevant. Some policies also address a parent accompanying an official activity without payment. Each benefit should be examined separately.

Documents and deadlines

Ask the school or local authority for the insurer’s details and the policy. Keep medical records, absence certificates and receipts. Insured amounts, qualifying periods and limitation rules require a current assessment. Figures in old policies or articles may not apply to your accident.
